Javascript

Postby zottona » Sat Feb 06, 2010 4:40 am

What is the best book, online resource, and software for programming in JavaScript? I have to take more javascript programming classes and I'm really not good at it. I desperately need help. I own Visual Basic, but it's a little difficult to use. What is the best book, online resource, and software for programming in javascript?

I've used O'Reilly's JavaScript: The Definitive Guide a lot. It's both a reference and a "how to" and it goes into a lot of depth. That said, it's not the most exciting read. W3schools.com also has a nice reference online which tells you about all of JavaScript's various functions but I think the best thing is simply to try things and look at what others do. If you need to accomplish something in JavaScript, give it a try and use the web as a resource to find ways to do it. Or look at the way someone else has created something and take it apart piece by piece. IMO, JavaScript is a very basic and easy to use language, but at the same time it can do some really cool things.

Oh, and feel free to ask questions here
